What happened

Personnel from the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade’s unmanned systems company, working with Gurzuf Defence and other Ukrainian units, used a modified Gurzuf Defence Heavy Shot “AYUDAG 6” hexacopter to evacuate a wounded soldier from the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade. The winch-equipped drone lifted him from a mined position under threat from hostile drones and carried him to a safer location, where the evacuation continued to a hospital. The operation reportedly lasted 1 hour 14 minutes and covered 62 km. The military and Gurzuf Defence adapted and pre-tested the system to limit instability and load swing, expanding the platform’s reported roles beyond strike, reconnaissance and logistics to casualty evacuation.

Why it matters

The mission provided an air-based evacuation option when mines and hostile drone activity made ground evacuation impractical. It combined a modified heavy-lift drone, winch and harness equipment, radio guidance, airspace monitoring and support from multiple Ukrainian formations. The operation shows how heavy drones can be adapted for combat medical evacuation in conditions that block conventional ground routes.
