Ukraine projects 2027 demand for 10,000 jet engines per month and backs domestic production

As of Published

What happened

Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara said Ukraine’s projected 2027 requirement for one engine type could reach approximately 10,000 units per month. The demand covers propulsion for interceptors, middle- and deep-strike systems, and cruise missiles. The Ministry of Defense is supporting about 20 Ukrainian developers and manufacturers, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced decisions on rolling out domestic production of multiple engine types.

Why it matters

The target frames jet engines as a cross-program industrial requirement and highlights engine shortages as a factor limiting the scaling of high-speed interceptor drones. A substantial share of the engines needed for the Bars interceptor remains imported, so domestic production efforts could address a specific supply constraint across interception and strike programs.
