What happened
Ukrainian company F-Drones is developing the F-Jet 80, a jet-powered interceptor designed to counter Russian jet strike drones, including Geran variants. The planned system uses a small jet engine producing 8–10 kgf of thrust and an artificial-intelligence system to help detect and pursue aerial targets. F-Drones is targeting a unit cost of about $5,000–$7,000 to support simple, mass production. A company design engineer identified as Ihor said the interceptor has already intercepted and destroyed several targets.
Why it matters
The proposed price is intended to make large-scale production possible against faster jet-powered drones that can cross air-defense zones more quickly than piston-powered loitering munitions. Militarnyi has reported that Russian production of jet-powered Geran-4 and Geran-5 drones has reached about 4,000 per month—twice the reported output of piston-powered Geran-2, whose production intelligence data puts at about 2,000 per month. F-Jet 80 is therefore aimed at matching interceptor cost and production capacity to a growing jet-drone threat, while the project remains under development and the reported interceptions come from the company.
